Welcome to
Ms.
Leonard's 6th Grade Social Studies Class!
American
History
What does it mean to be
an American? What affects the choices we make?
What do success and failure bring out
in people? What is our
responsibility to others and ourselves? We
will consider these questions as we study America's
history
from
the
Antebellum
Period through
the
Cold War. We will think about what determined our nation's
actions, values, and national identity and
the effects of those beliefs and deeds. We will view
history
not
merely
as "the
past," but
as an important influence upon America today.
Students will also practice valuable social and
study
skills
throughout
the
year.
What
will make this class a great experience?
How
can I succeed academically?
Grades
and more
What
kind of person you are is more important than the
grade you make.
Grades
are important, of course, but they aren't what make you a human being. At our
school, we are as concerned with the person you are becoming as with what you
achieve. That's why we have
an Honor
Code. Please
keep
your
word. We'll be proud to know you.
More importantly,
you'll be proud of yourself.
