enhance students’ holistic understanding of the value and
purposes of such media. Students should gain perspective
on news values along with media law issues such as libel

Department Policy on Acceptable
Materials for Literature Study
The Episcopal English Department does not condone
student use of outside print and electronic sources to aid
interpretation of literature studied in class. Such sources
include Sparknotes, Cliff’s Notes, and essays, notes or study
guides published or purchased through print or electronic
media. Written work and ideas involving the literature in
class discussion should come from students’ minds at work
with materials and information presented by the teacher. In
the event that a tutor is involved, the student is expected
to understand and uphold this policy in keeping with the Honor
Code.
