Episcopal teacher named top high school math teacher in state

Tuesday, November 9, 2004

The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics named Episcopal teacher Kay Fenton the Outstanding High School Math Teacher in Louisiana for 2004.

LATM invited all schools in Louisiana to nominate a teacher for the honor. After an application process, LATM named three finalists for elementary school, middle school and secondary school. The winners in each category were announced at the regional meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics on Nov. 6 in New Orleans.

Ms. Fenton teaches Calculus and Algebra II at Episcopal. She also serves as a consultant with the College Board and is National Board Certified.

Last year, Ms. Fenton was one of 18 recipients nationally of the Siemens Award for Advanced Placement. The Siemens Foundation annually recognizes three teachers from each of the College Board’s six regions for exemplary teaching and dedication to students in the Advanced Placement program.

This is the second consecutive year an Episcopal teacher has been recognized by LATM. Last year Pam Goodner was named the state Middle School Math Teacher of the Year.
