Leap Day - Karnival Knight
2008 – Leaping into Spring, It was a Sixties
Thing!
And what a HUGE success it was! There was something
for everyone to enjoy that night – inflatables
and pony rides delighted the younger kids; bands
entertained the parents, teachers, and older kids;
sweets and great food were eaten by all; Midway
Games and the Cake Walk tried the luck of all
ages of players; masterpieces and memorabilia
were bid on and won in the Silent Auction; contests
of all kinds were taking place on stage for all
of those who love attention; new students were
invited and welcomed to our party as a “New
Knight”; Rock Climbing challenged those
agile, fearless kids; and Guitar Hero battles
– taking place in the back of a truck –
rocked the gamers! The atmosphere was festive
and the colors of the sixties were everywhere
with many wearing their very own tie dye t-shirt
creation! Of course, none of this would have been
possible without the parent and student volunteers
helping in out in every way!
Every
year more planning is added to make Karnival even
better and this year was no different. The tie
dying of Karnival t-shirts prior to Karnival Knight
was creative chaos in the process but the outcome
was extraordinary colorful! The artwork by our
Lower School classes were masterpieces in their
own right with the organizational help of Kate
Trepagnier and Caroline Nash. All of our Division
Heads and secretaries were extremely patient and
helpful in every stage of planning. Will York,
Wendy Martin and their crew were absolutely sure
that every hole would be filled in and every light
bulb would be replaced before Karnival –
and they were RIGHT!
This year’s success story is due to the
efforts of our Karnival Chairs, Martha Hanks and
Beverly Walker, two true Southern Belles who aren’t
afraid to get their hands dirty or dyed, and their
experienced Karnival Committee! I am truly amazed
at what happens when talented, dedicated parents
get it together like they did for Karnival Knight!
