The
Mission of The Episcopal Dance Department
The Episcopal High School Dance Department provides
students with an opportunity to survey the performing
arts
through dance, and further, to provide a means to develop
this performance opportunity to a level of ability that
will make EHS students competitive with other students
in a college dance curriculum or performing arts environment,
through extensive training in ballet and related dance
forms and ultimately, with a better understanding, a
larger appreciation,
and a growing enthusiasm for the art of dance in all its
forms.
Dance
Ensemble
Two organizations have grown out of this program for
further performance opportunities. The Middle School Dance
Ensemble and the Upper School Dance Ensemble perform in
the scheduled semester dance concerts and at area festivals
and local celebrations in the Baton Rouge area.
This year, we will have the wonderful opportunities
of sharing our gifts and talents in worship services. Members
of the Dance Ensemble can volunteer to share in praying
and rejoicing in God’s goodness through dance! Middle
School and Upper School students are welcome, and no previous
dance experience is necessary!
OUR YEAR
OF SERVICE
In our year of service, the Dance Ensemble
is committed to sharing their talents and energy with others
in the Baton Rouge community. Upper and Middle School Dance
Ensemble will organize and shoes and tights drive to provide
dancers of Mid City Dance Project with supplies for their
lessons and performances. Members of Upper School Dance
Ensemble will help with the NAACP African American Heritage
Festival in providing assistance at the performance stage.
Middle School Dance Ensemble will perform Les Patineurs
at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Wing, and at a number
of Nursing Homes and Retirement communities in the Baton
Rouge area. The original production, Journeys, will be performed
for Melrose Elementary and local Episcopal elementary schools
in the Baton Rouge area.
